Commercial Imperative
As part of the BBC’s overall Corporate Property Strategy the property requirements for BBC Cymru Wales needed to be reassessed. A key driver was the desire to relocate the drama production unit of ‘Casualty’ from Bristol to join ‘Dr Who’ in Wales. Financially the project needed to remain cost neutral to the BBC within both the current and next licence fee periods. CPA Role
CPA acted as the BBC’s representative, establishing the requirements, design and preferred outcome with the local business units. Having considered several shortlisted options CPA then prepared the business case and took the project to the contractual phase with the selected developer partner having secured considerable public sector support. The Result
The site was secured in Cardiff for the creation of a Drama centre for BBC Cymru Wales incorporating 7 drama studios and ancillary office and staff facilities. Developers Igloo are supported by the Welsh Assembly Government and Cardiff Council and have started construction on a site with an estimated size of 170,000 square feet.
